This year, I volunteered as an Esperanza Clinic Continuity Coordinator, and corresponded with Spanish-speaking Patients via text message. My role included scheduling/confirming appointments at Esperanza Clinic and answering questions about topics like eligibility and referrals. This was a wonderful opportunity, I really enjoyed getting to know a bit more about some of Esperanza Clinic's Patients. I also think that being a ConCoord has helped me improve my Spanish. I am closer to my goal of becoming fluent.
On April 7, I volunteered as the In-Clinic Continuity Coordinator for Esperanza Clinic. I spoke with Patients and their care teams and scheduled follow-up appointments. I really enjoyed meeting some of Esperanza's Patients in person and getting to know some of the other student volunteers a bit better. It was also a great opportunity to practice conversing in Spanish. During week-long Esperanza ConCoord phone shifts, I primarily use my reading and writing skills (for sending and receiving text messages).
I have really enjoyed being a MESH Student Leader so far. I attended and observed the 2nd through the 4th sessions and assisted the EVMS students that volunteered to teach.

I have really enjoyed my role as MESH Student Leader so far. I attended the first MESH session, and helped introduce the program and administer pre-tests to the students at the Boys and Girls Club. It was wonderful to meet the students and the Boys & Girls Club staff in person -- this session was a great start to our 6 week program.
